About the service
Online File Inspection enables you to access patent applications
that are open to public inspection, Supplementary Protection
Certificates (SPC's) and extensions of SPC's. A patent application is open
to public inspection after 18 months from the filing date or the
priority date if there is one. If the patent is granted within the
18 months the application is made available to the public from the
day of grant. The applicant can even request that the application
be laid open for public inspection before the said 18 months
(22nd paragraph Patents Act). Normally a revealed patent
application will be accessible for file inspection 10 days after
publishing. Public documentation is usually available for file
inspection 2-3 working days after being received by the Swedish
Patent Office.
The database contains all public files that have been received after the 15th of September 2004 and the files for Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPC's) and extensions of SPC's that are electronically available. For applications that are not available in the Online File Inspection see the Swedish Patent Database.
In addition File Inspection contains about 5000 applications with filing dates mainly between the years 1999-2004. These files consist of pending files that had not received a final decision before the 15th of September 2004
The provision of electronic access to public documents involves handling personal data as decreed by GDPR. Allowing electronic access to such information can contravene this law, even if the documents themselves are public. Therefore, all documents in File Inspection have been checked for any instances of personal data protected by the Personal Data Act. A small number of acts have had personal data of a more sensitive nature removed and are, as a result, not shown in full. PRV can, however, provide such documents in full, upon request in writing.
